Hey friends! My name is Rocco, and I'm a 6-year-old, 44lb Staffordshire Terrier mix with a heart of gold and a spirit that shines! I'm a survivor who knows the true meaning of resilience, having overcome abandonment on the streets of Guadalajara, Mexico. My early days were tough, spent fending for myself and navigating dangerous environments. Thankfully, kind souls stepped in and began my journey to healing. Over a year, my frail body and spirit mended, revealing the exuberant and loving pup I am today. My rescuers say my transformation is a testament to the power of love!
Ideal Home
I'm a very loving boy who adores human company. While I can be bouncy and energetic around people, I do well with clear boundaries. I'd do best in a home with older children, as my exuberance and strength mean I can be a bit rambunctious. I also enjoy the company of other dogs, as long as they aren't overly dominant. I can get a little playful rough with other pups, and I can be reactive to dominant male dogs, so a family willing to work on this with me would be wonderful. I'm still figuring out my reactions to cats and small critters, so an adopter ready to train me through any prey drive behaviors would be ideal.
Ongoing Health
You'll notice a few small scars on my body from old wounds, including a medium-sized scar on my leg, but these don't bother me one bit! I am neutered and vaccinated. Please note that dogs from Guadalajara are not microchipped. It's also common for rescue dogs to need dental work after adoption, and while West Coast Paws does not cover these costs, it's something to be aware of.
Training & Support
I'm a smart cookie and a quick learner! I've already learned several commands like 'sit,' 'stay,' and 'no' in training school. I'm great on a leash and house training is going well, though I might need a little extra patience and continued training in these areas. Crate training is also progressing positively. Car rides can make me a bit nervous, so some extra training to help me relax and enjoy them would be beneficial. My rescuers highly encourage adopters to do some research and training beforehand to help me settle in smoothly.
