Rye is a small, sweet, and sassy Australian cattle dog mix from Hyannis, MA. She's a healthy and active nine-year-old who loves to play catch and is great off-leash, especially at the beach or exploring in the woods. While she enjoys long walks, leash-walking can be a challenge as she may bark and lunge at other dogs. Redirection and a buzz collar can be helpful for her on walks. Rye is very cuddly and a good housemate, knowing basic cues and being potty-trained. She can be left unattended when you're away. She was a puppy when first adopted from a southern shelter. Her previous owner passed away when Rye was four, and a friend took her in. Unfortunately, due to changes in circumstances, Rye had to move in with relatives who have young children, and she is not good with the two boys, who are 5 and 7 years old. Her current situation is difficult, and a local rescue is assisting in finding her a caring and appropriate family with dog experience.
Ideal Home
Rye would do best as the only pet or with a subdued resident dog. She is not a good match for dogs who also like to be the boss, as her personality is on the strong side. She is not good with young children, especially those who are rowdy. A house with a yard is preferred.
Ongoing Health
Rye is spayed and up-to-date on shots. Please be prepared to comfort her during storms or fireworks.
Training & Support
Rye responds well to redirection and a buzz collar while on leash. She does well with routine and positive reinforcement. She is a smart dog and knows basic cues.
