Dolce is a delightful 7-year-old male Cockapoo who weighs 20 lbs. He has a medium energy level and is looking for a home where he can feel secure and loved. Dolce's previous family had to surrender him due to a move, and the kennel environment unfortunately made him extremely anxious. He was fearful, reactive, and had never been exposed to other animals before.
Dolce is a dog that requires patience and understanding, but the reward is immense. While he may initially be shy and vocal when meeting new people, he quickly warms up, especially with the help of a tasty treat. He's not a dog for a "love at first sight" adoption; it's about looking beyond his initial anxieties to see the wonderful companion he truly is. His foster family discovered that with a calm environment and understanding, Dolce adapted much faster than expected. He bonded almost instantly, followed his foster mom everywhere, and began seeking out cuddles. He had simply been overwhelmed by a significant change in his life and needed comfort.
Ideal Home
Dolce would thrive in a house environment. He is house-trained and does not destroy anything when left alone. While he is good with other dogs, new introductions can make him nervous. He does not chase cats. He is a quiet dog who enjoys sleeping near his person and loves going for walks, though meeting new people can still be a bit frightening for him. He is vocal when he hears the neighborhood, making a house essential. Dolce is also scared of the vacuum cleaner, even when it's off, but he is learning to overcome his fears.
Ongoing Health
Dolce's medical history shows he was quite thin after his time in kennels. Blood tests initially raised some concerns, but with a special diet, he has recovered well and gained weight. He has had a dental cleaning with no extractions needed. He is currently on anxiety medication, which helps him greatly.
Training & Support
Dolce is a vocal dog when he hears things outside. He is learning to overcome his fear of new people and experiences, and his foster family has been actively socializing him. He is learning to manage his anxieties with his medication and by being in a stable, loving environment.
