Meet Ariosa Spanish Water Dogs, established 2000. Located in central Connecticut, Lisa Harper was instrumental in introducing the Spanish Water Dog breed to the AKC. She is a founding member of the AKC parent club and the first AKC Breeder of Merit in the breed. Currently, she serves as the Spanish Water Dog Club of America's Judges Education Coordinator, chair of the Health & Wellness Committee, and AKC Liaison. Lisa breeds for "the total dog". In addition to being family companions, her dogs compete around the country. Her own dogs have won multiple National Specialties and Best of Breeds at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog show. Our single **2026 litter arrived in early May**: four beautiful girls and four handsome boys. As always, the pups are raised in our home. Mama Lexi is one of the very best mamas I've ever had the privilege to work alongside. This is her last litter. Sire Dudley is a working service dog in NYC with an open and sunny character. Although I average just one litter every 1-2 years, I am truly a serious preservation breeder. Yes, Spanish Water Dogs are a medium-sized hypoallergenic (meaning less allergenic) breed, but they are also hard-wired for work with their person. In southern Spain, they continue to work primarily as a goat and Marino herding breed. In the north, they worked on open fishing boats but are no longer commonly found in that capacity. They do continue to be a much loved upland game/flushing and waterfowl retriever. Spanish Water Dogs are devoted to their people and are generally protective of their homes. They thrive in dog-experienced, active homes with a fun and even hand. Lexi and Dudley have completed and passed all CHIC health testing (hips, eyes, thyroid, prcd-PRA, eo-PRA, CHG (congenital hypothyroidism with goiter), and NAD (neuroaxonal dystrophy). Not all breeders on AKC marketplace do complete health testing, so be sure to ask which they do. I welcome questions about the breed!
