Canela

Canela is a bright, loving, and full-of-life young dog with the heart and spirit typical of an Australian Kelpie mix. She's approximately 1 year old and weighs around 33 lbs. Known for their intelligence, loyalty, and high energy, Kelpies are active companions who thrive with people who enjoy outdoor activities, and Canela is no exception! She walks well on a leash and is incredibly social with dogs and people alike. Canela has a playful and funny personality; she'll even jump up as if she were a tiny Chihuahua, hoping to be picked up and cuddled! She's energetic, curious, and always ready for fun, making her an ideal companion for someone who enjoys walks, exercise, or an active lifestyle. Canela was found alone in the street and has shown nothing but love, resilience, and a wonderful spirit. She is ready to find a forever home where she can share her energy, affection, and loyal heart, and will undoubtedly make an incredibly devoted and fun-loving companion.

Ideal Home

Canela would thrive in a home with a fenced backyard and an active family that enjoys outdoor activities. She needs a family with the intention to truly rescue and understand the needs of a street animal, including their potential behaviors and need for protection and education. Experience with dog behavior and training is highly recommended, or a willingness to hire a trainer. She requires high tolerance and patience for rescued puppies.

Ongoing Health

Canela has been spayed, vaccinated with DHPPI and Rabies shots, and received a Bordetella vaccine. She has also been dewormed, microchipped, and tested for 4DX and heartworm (both negative). She is on monthly preventive protection with Nexgard Spectra.

Training & Support

Canela may get bored if she doesn’t have enough stimulation, and might chew on objects, especially plastic, so providing toys and guidance will help her thrive. She may also bark when she hears unfamiliar noises, as she is naturally alert. As a rescued dog, she is not house-trained and will require patience and understanding as she adjusts to a new environment.

Transporation

Canela is currently being fostered in Saltillo, Mexico, and is ready to travel to the East Coast. Transportation is available door-to-door for a one-time fee of $400 USD. This includes scheduled trips organized 3-4 times a year with a minimum of 15-20 adoptions per trip. A contracted transport company will escort pets across the border into Texas (for US adoptions) or to the nearest US-Canada border (for Canadian adoptions), with all necessary legal and health documents.
