Rufus has the kindest eyes and a scruffy little face that will make you want to scoop him up! This 2-year-old, neutered Yorkie/Lhasa Apso mix weighs about 15 lbs and is a loving companion who is ready to leave his past behind for a forever family. He was abandoned at an apartment complex and left to fend for himself for several days, but despite his difficult start, Rufus is incredibly sweet, trusting, and eager to love. He’s a true "Velcro dog" who wants to be wherever his people are, whether that’s curled up on the couch, following you from room to room, or settling into your lap. He’s affectionate, gentle, and has a happy, easygoing nature that makes him a joy to have around. Rufus is wonderful with other dogs and respects their space and social cues, but he doesn’t rely on canine companionship and would likely be happy as an only dog as long as he receives plenty of attention from his humans. He walks nicely on leash, doesn’t pull, and shows no reactivity towards people or other dogs. Rufus also rides beautifully in the car and enjoys watching the world go by. He is crate trained and settles quietly when needed. Like many young dogs, he still has a playful side and occasionally expresses himself with gentle play nibbles. He is still working on house training, though these challenges may improve now that he has been neutered and is in a consistent foster routine. Rufus has a moderate energy level and strikes a wonderful balance between enjoying walks and adventures and being content to cuddle up for a nap afterward. He forms deep bonds and simply wants to be part of the family. As a Yorkie/Lhasa Apso mix, Rufus will require regular grooming to keep his coat healthy.
Ideal Home
Rufus' ideal home is one that wants a true companion. Someone looking for a loyal sidekick, a couch buddy, a walking partner, and a dog who will love them with his whole heart. He deserves a family who will never leave him behind again.
Ongoing Health
Rufus is currently underweight and is expected to be closer to 18 to 20 lbs once he's back to a healthy weight.
Training & Support
Rufus is still working on house training, though we suspect some of those challenges may improve now that he's been neutered and has a consistent routine in foster care. Like many young dogs, he still has a playful side and occasionally expresses himself with gentle puppy-style play nibbles.
