Canela

Canela is a bright, loving, and full-of-life young dog with the heart and spirit typical of an Australian Kelpie. Known for their intelligence, loyalty, and high energy, Kelpies are active companions who thrive with people who enjoy outdoor activities—and Canela is no exception. She walks well on a leash and is very social with dogs and people alike—men, women, and strangers don’t make her nervous at all. In fact, she’s incredibly friendly and affectionate. Canela has a playful and funny personality—she’ll even jump up as if she were a tiny Chihuahua, hoping to be picked up and cuddled! Canela is energetic, curious, and always ready for fun. She would be an ideal companion for someone who enjoys walks, exercise, or an active lifestyle. Whether it’s exploring new places or simply spending time together, she brings joy and excitement wherever she goes. Canela was found alone playing in the street and was taken in to protect her from potential harm. Since then, she has shown nothing but love, resilience, and a wonderful spirit. She is approximately 1 year old and weighs about 33 lbs.

Ideal Home

A home with a fenced backyard is required. An active family that enjoys outdoor activities is ideal. Families with a genuine intention to rescue a dog, not just adopt, and an open conscience about the needs and behaviors of rescued street animals are preferred. Experience in dog behavior and training is highly valued, or a willingness to hire a trainer for this intelligent dog. High tolerance and patience for rescued puppies are a must.

Ongoing Health

Canela has received a spay/neuter certificate, DHPPI and Rabies vaccines, Bordetella vaccine, has been dewormed, and is microchipped. She also has a negative 4DX test and heartworm test, and is on monthly preventive protection (Nexgard Spectra). A health certificate and vaccine booklet are included. Please be aware that like many rescued dogs, she may require an adjustment period in a new home and may need patience and understanding as she adapts.

Training & Support

Canela can get bored if she doesn’t have enough stimulation and may chew on objects, especially plastic. Providing her with plenty of toys and guidance will help her thrive. She may also bark when she hears unfamiliar noises, as she is naturally alert. Please note that Canela is not house-trained.

• You must submit photos and videos of your home as part of the application process.
• If it's a match, we will schedule a call or video chat to introduce you to the pet and conduct a virtual home tour.
• We will speak with 1-2 of your references.
• If approved, you will sign the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee, which helps cover vet care, spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip, and food.

Transporation

Canela is currently being fostered in Saltillo, Mexico and is ready to travel to the East Coast on a cross-country trip. Transportation is available door-to-door for a one-time fee of $400 USD. Trips are scheduled 3-4 times per year with a minimum of 15-20 adoptions per trip. A contracted transport company will collect adopted pets in Mexico and travel across the border into Texas for US adoptions. For Canadian adoptions, pets will be delivered to the nearest US-Canada border. Real-time updates will be provided via a private Facebook Messenger group.
