Johnny- on hold

Johnny is a gentle, small dog with a coat the color of a penny! He was rescued from a catastrophic flood in Texas and made a long journey to his current foster home in Virginia. Despite his challenges, Johnny is a sweet and low-key companion who loves head rubs and quiet evenings on the sofa. He's been doing well and enjoys wandering in the yard, especially when the weather is warm. He's also quite the foodie and gets excited for mealtime!

Ideal Home

Johnny would thrive in a home with older children or adults only. He has not spent time with children and should always be supervised if young children are present. He is uncertain about wet and cool weather and needs to be carried up and down steps.

Ongoing Health

Johnny has several health considerations:

• Vestibular Syndrome: He has a mild case that causes a head tilt and a tendency to circle, though this is improving.
• Heart Disease: He has been diagnosed with early heart disease and takes Vetmedin and Benazepril daily.
• Vision and Hearing Loss: Johnny is blind and has significant hearing loss.
• Skin Issues: He had dry skin and small lumps/bumps, which have improved with daily fish oil.
• Lumps: Several benign lumps have been removed from his body, and areas where lumps were removed need monitoring.
• Coughing: He has a quiet cough, which may be related to mild trachea collapse, allergies, or bronchitis, and is now considered a symptom of his heart disease.
• Reverse Sneezing: He experiences fairly frequent instances of reverse sneezing.

Training & Support

Johnny is crate-trained and housetrained with accommodations due to his vestibular syndrome and vision loss; he wears a belly band around the clock as accidents can be unpredictable and is taken out every 2-3 hours. He is generally a quiet dog, only barking occasionally when excited about food.
