Jesper is a 5-year-old Mini Australian Shepherd who spent his entire life as a breeder dog before coming into rescue. When he first arrived just two months ago, he was an extremely shut-down little guy. He wanted nothing to do with people, was terrified of being touched, and spent much of his time pacing in circles around the house and yard. Human interaction was something he simply didn't understand.
Today, it is incredible to watch his transformation unfold. While Jesper is still very much a work in progress, he has already made tremendous strides. He is now allowing gentle handling and has recently started playing with the other dogs-a huge milestone for a dog who previously lived in a world of fear and uncertainty. We estimate he is about one-third of the way to where he will eventually be, and every day brings another small victory.
Ideal Home
Jesper is looking for a patient, understanding family that will continue helping him discover what it means to be loved. He will need a calm, predictable home with a securely fenced yard and at least one confident, friendly dog to show him the ropes. He takes great comfort in other dogs and learns from watching them. He also ignores cats, making him a potential fit for a feline-friendly home.
Ongoing Health
No specific health conditions are mentioned in the listing.
Training & Support
Jesper is doing very well with potty training and continues to make progress in all areas of his life. The family who adopts him won't just be giving him a home-they'll have the privilege of witnessing an amazing journey as he learns to trust, play, and truly become a dog.
