Bueller is a handsome 9-year-old Brindle Shih Tzu, weighing 16.5 pounds. He came to us from a difficult situation where his former person faced a medical emergency and could no longer care for him. Thankfully, he and several other Shih Tzus found their way to our sanctuary, where they are receiving much-needed medical attention and love. Bueller has undergone a remarkable transformation since arriving; he's lost over 3 pounds and is now joyfully running and jumping, abilities he didn't have before. He's a soulful and loving companion who can be a bit shy initially, especially around men. However, once he feels safe and trusts you, he blossoms into an incredibly affectionate and gentle dog. He shows his gratitude with melt-your-heart hugs and sweet kisses. Bueller has a wonderful "big brother" demeanor with the younger dogs, patiently letting them snuggle and seek his attention. While he enjoys canine company, his deepest desire is for a person to call his own, with whom he can share his life and affection. He's already showing us he's ready to dance with joy when he sees his favorite people, and we know he'll do the same for his forever family.
Ideal Home
Bueller would thrive in a home where his people are around most of the time, providing him with companionship day and night. He'd do best in a home without crates. A securely fenced backyard would be a bonus, but not required. Older children may be considered on a case-by-case basis if they have prior experience with dogs, understand dog behavior, and show great respect and love for them.
Ongoing Health
Bueller recently had a dental cleaning and tooth extractions in June 2026. His bloodwork in April 2026 was mostly within normal ranges with nothing concerning. He is microchipped and up-to-date on flea/tick prevention, heartworm prevention, and dewormer. A health certificate will be provided with his medical records.
Training & Support
Bueller is currently working on getting comfortable with a harness and leash, as well as basic commands like "sit," "recall," and "look." We expect his new family to continue his positive reinforcement training. Basic foundational skills training sessions with a certified professional positive reinforcement trainer are required for Bueller's adoption to help him continue to build confidence and strengthen his bond with his new family.
