Penny is a gorgeous Rhodesian Ridgeback mix weighing approximately 50 lbs, and she is the sweetest girl! She's about 1 year and 3 months old and was found in January of 2026 in South Texas, near the Texas/Mexico border, with over a dozen other dogs. She was fending for herself, searching for food, water, and shelter.
Penny absolutely adores other dogs, no matter their size! She's currently in a short-term sanctuary foster home and is ready to find her forever family. She can be a little shy initially, but she quickly warms up and becomes your most loyal, loving companion. Penny is very active and loves to play in the yard, especially with other dogs and their toys. She's also gentle and enjoys playing with the pigs at her current foster home.
Penny is an adventurous spirit and an escape artist who enjoys exploring. She's mostly house-trained and just needs a little consistency to be perfect. She loves car rides and walks reasonably well on a leash, though she'll need a bit more practice to master it. Once familiar with an area, her recall is excellent. She once climbed a 4-foot fence to explore but promptly returned to the front door, waiting to be let in.
Ideal Home
An active home that wants a dog who loves adventures and will be their shadow. A home with another active dog to play with and help tire each other out is strongly recommended, or consistent access to doggy friends, dog parks, or daycare.
Ongoing Health
Penny is spayed, microchipped, and up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations and dewormer. She has tested heartworm positive and has received a 30-day course of antibiotics. She will need to remain on heartworm prevention for 12-16 months and be retested. She will receive a clean bill of health from a licensed veterinarian prior to transport.
Training & Support
Penny is mostly house-trained and will need consistency to be 100% reliable. She walks okay on a leash but will benefit from continued training.
