Hansel D4539 (Gusto)

Hansel D4539 (Gusto) is a sweet young pup who warms up quickly and enjoys cuddles when being held. He was rescued from a distant shelter after experiencing neglect, which left him with fleas and worms, contributing to a pot-bellied appearance and a dull coat. Thanks to the care from Tama Veterinary Hospital, Hansel received treatment for fleas and worms, a rabies vaccination, and a microchip. His ears were also cleaned and treated for an infection.

His foster home has been showering him with extra love, delicious home-cooked meals, and a healthy environment to help him recover. Hansel is a brave explorer who loves to play fetch and is excellent at recalling his name. He's also discovered a love for swimming and enjoys playing in the water! He is fine with the resident cat and gets along well with other dogs once properly introduced. Hansel is an intelligent, curious, and high-energy pup who thrives on daily brisk walks and jogs. His foster home believes he would excel with guardians who can provide him with ample exercise, potentially for K9 work or dog sports.

Ideal Home

Hansel needs active guardians who can keep up with his high energy and provide him with plenty of exercise. He should not be in a home with children as he has a tendency to chase them.

Ongoing Health

Hansel is recovering from fleas and worms. He is currently on medication for an ear infection.

Training & Support

Hansel needs ongoing training to learn not to chase runners, cars, or bikes, and will need to remain on leash for now. He would benefit from one-on-one training sessions to improve impulse control and recall. His foster home is working on loose-leash training, and he will be working with a trainer soon. He is a smart German Shepherd teen and needs experienced guardians who can commit to daily exercise and training.
