Meet Max Foote Hello, my name is Max Foote.

I'm a semi senior dog, estimated at 5-7 years of age, a Pit Bull Terrier mix with a very sweet disposition and a gentle soul.
On May 12, 2026, my life changed forever. My owner attempted to leave me at the animal shelter after staff had already gone home for the day. When that didn't work out, he loaded me back into the vehicle and drove away. A short time later, we stopped again—this time on the outskirts of town in an industrial area. He placed a bowl of water and a small bag of dog food beside me, got back in the vehicle, and drove away, leaving me alone on the side of the road.

I spent a frightening night by myself, but I stayed exactly where I had been left, hoping my owner would come back for me.

The next morning, employees at the business where I had been abandoned called the animal shelter. Shelter staff arrived around 8:30 a.m. and brought me to safety.

At the shelter, I was examined and cared for. I was already neutered, but I was slightly overweight, heartworm positive, and covered in ticks from spending the night outdoors. The staff gently removed the ticks, vaccinated me, fed me, and made sure I was comfortable. I was so scared that I couldn't eat, so I mostly slept.

Later that day, Angela, the shelter's office manager, took me outside for a potty break. We spent time walking together, and her kindness helped me feel safe. When we came back inside, she made a comfortable spot for me under her desk, and I stayed there with her for the rest of the day.

Even after another night at the shelter, I still wasn't eating. Concerned about me, Angela agreed to foster me, and I've now been in her home for over a month.

During my first week, I refused both kibble and canned dog food, so Angela cooked for me. My favorite mornings were Sundays when breakfast included eggs, hash browns, and a little sausage or bacon. Thanks to her care, I've lost some weight, gained strength, and feel like a completely different dog. My skin is no longer stretched tight, I have more energy, and I can now run up a flight of stairs—something I couldn't do when I first arrived. I have now found something that I like to eat from the dog food isle, Fresh Pet Chicken and Vegetables, it's a bit costly and I eat about 6 pounds a week or less, that's about 1.5 bags of fresh food at $26 per bag. Hey, you do what your have to do when you have a picky eater.

I absolutely love playing fetch with a tennis ball. I get along well with cats (and if I'm being honest, I think cat food smells pretty amazing). I'm wonderful with children and have done great with kids ranging from 2 to 15 years old.

Car rides used to make me nervous, and I would pant from anxiety, but I'm learning that adventures can be fun. I have two orthopedic beds in my foster home—one beside Angela's recliner and another next to her bed. I don't need a crate because I'm completely housebroken and not destructive when left alone.

The best part? Once I bond with someone, I'm incredibly loyal. Wherever Angela goes, I'm usually right behind her. I love being near my people and simply being part of the family.

After everything I've been through, I'm looking for a forever home where I will never be left behind again. In return, I promise loyalty, companionship, and plenty of games of fetch.
