About Ernie
Ernie is a charming 8-year-old, 63lb Pittie/Cattle Dog mix who was found as a stray but quickly captured the heart of his foster mom. Despite being microchipped, his former owner did not want him back. Ernie was adopted from a county shelter in 2020 and was clearly loved, as he tested negative for heartworm and is a true gem of a dog eager to find his forever family. He's a chill and goofy gentleman who lights up for walks and playtime. Ernie is a social butterfly, doing great with all humans and animals he's encountered. He gets excited when he sees other dogs, wagging his tail and hoping for a friendly introduction. He's a gentle playmate who enjoys being part of the pack and goes with the flow, even letting his smaller foster sibling boss him around. While he hasn't formally met a cat, he shows interest without aggression, suggesting he could do well with feline friends who don't mind his friendly curiosity. Ernie hasn't been around children, but his gentle nature makes his foster believe he'd be a wonderful companion for a family, as long as they understand he's a big boy. He's house-trained and walks well on a leash. Ernie doesn't enjoy crates and will attempt to escape; however, he remains non-destructive when left unsupervised. He may whine or howl briefly when crated if he knows you're home, but a treat or verbal reassurance quickly calms him. Ernie loves to be wherever you are, often following you from room to room, and his favorite spot is right beside you. His foster mom believes Ernie would thrive in any home, whether with children, other pets, an older couple, or even a first-time dog owner. This senior sweetheart has a wealth of love to give and is ready to join his very own pack.
Ideal Home
Ernie would love a home where he can be part of the family pack. He's great with dogs of all sizes and friendly towards cats. He would likely be a wonderful companion for children, provided they are aware of his size.
Ongoing Health
Ernie tested negative for heartworm.
Training & Support
Ernie is house-trained and walks well on a leash. He dislikes crates and will try to escape, though he is not destructive when left alone. He may whine or howl briefly when crated if he knows you are home, but can be comforted with a treat or verbal commands.
