Meet the breeder

Meet One Oak GSD. It is our opinion that we breed to better the quality of the German Shepherd Dog in the area, and we strive to find the best quality animals. Our active breeding stock consists of three females and a male, and all are family pets. We screen for hip health through the OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) and we screen for DM (degenerative myelopathy) through DDC (DNA Diagnostic Center) or EMBARK Vet. If a dog fails to be healthy, it is NOT BRED, but is castrated and rehomed or kept as a pet. No matter what breed you are looking into purchasing, any good vet will recommend that you research the breed and KNOW the issues with health that the breed can have. Chose a breeder who screens for these issues, and breeds responsibly. Just because a dog is papered does NOT mean it should be bred. We also suggest that you do detailed research into the breed's origins and purpose to which it was developed. Did you know Dalmatians were bred to run along side the coach and protect it from highwaymen? Did you know that Dachshunds were bred to face badgers and boar, and not be afraid? or that a Queensland "Blue" heeler is expected to take on a 2,000 pound bull and not give in? Many breeds were created with a high drive:low fear expectation in mind. Dogs were specifically chosen that could do the job and were bred to create more dogs that could do it better. GSD are no exception. GSD as a breed is a smart, confident dog. If you are not prepared for a high energy, high intelligence, strong willed animal, reconsider what breed you are looking for. And no matter what, KNOW YOUR STUFF! when talking to your breeder. It will save you future heart aches and medical costs.
