Meet Greta and Jellybean, a precious bonded pair of senior dogs who are ready to find their retirement homes together!
Greta, a sweet Shih Tzu around 12 years old, is mostly blind but navigates her world with quiet confidence. She can be a bit timid and nervous, especially with touch, but she has moments of playful zoomies where she loves to chew on empty water bottles and cardboard. Jellybean, about 10 years old and likely a Bichon Frise or Miniature Poodle mix, is the more energetic of the two, greeting everyone with happy hops and enthusiastic tail wags. She's very treat-motivated, which makes training a breeze, and she has an endearing habit of reaching out with her paw for more pets when you stop. Both girls are fully crate trained and find comfort sleeping together in the same crate at night. They get along wonderfully with cats and love playing with other small dogs. While Jellybean is friendly with all dogs, Greta can be a bit nippy if larger dogs invade her space, but she's happy when they respect her boundaries. Greta was surrendered from an Amish breeder and her past is unknown, but she is slowly coming out of her shell and learning to trust. She is not yet housebroken, but she wears a diaper successfully and is more comfortable using pee pads indoors due to her limited vision. She is learning about the outside world, including collars and leashes, and is slowly getting used to being touched.
Ideal Home
A patient, gentle, and quiet household with humans who understand senior dog needs, limited vision, and the importance of routine and reassurance. They would thrive with plenty of love, short walks, and cozy cuddle time. A home with a resident dog companion to help Greta continue to build confidence is recommended. A more mature home is recommended, away from very young children.
Ongoing Health
Greta has a mature cataract in her left eye and a developing one in her right eye, impairing her vision.
Training & Support
Greta is not housebroken and is still acclimating to life outside of a cage and interacting with humans. She is wary of touch due to her vision impairment but does seek attention and allows petting when she is comfortable. Both dogs are treat-motivated, which aids in training.
