Hi there! My name is Ruby, and I'm a delightful 7-year-old Chihuahua Dachshund mix with a heart full of wags. My journey brought me from California to Chicago, and the wonderful folks at Border Tails saw how special I am. I'm a unique blend of a little slow to warm up, yet incredibly happy, loyal, and cheerful. My tail is always wagging, whether it's for a walk, a treat, or just seeing my favorite human! I'm a natural beauty with silky black fur and golden spots, and my soulful brown eyes are sure to melt your heart. When you pet me, I just relax and soak up all the love.
Ideal Home
I thrive in a calm environment where I can feel safe and loved. I do not do well with cats or squirrels, so my ideal home would be one without them. I also prefer to avoid loud noises and chaos. I would love a home with plenty of comfy cushions, blankets, and dog beds for me to lounge on. While I am potty trained, I appreciate having a pee pad available when I'm home alone. Because stairs are difficult and scary for me, I kindly request that you carry me up and down them.
Ongoing Health
Before being rescued, I had some issues with poor nutrition and gained extra weight. I'm now on a high-quality diet and a regular feeding schedule, which has made a huge difference in my energy and overall health. My weight is trending in a good direction, and I'm looking for a loving home that will continue to support my healthy lifestyle so I can reach my ideal weight.
Training & Support
I can be a bit shy and slow to warm up to new people, but once I trust you, I'm incredibly loyal and will follow you everywhere! I may bark for a few minutes when left alone, but with some reassurance that you'll return, I settle down nicely. I'm happy to use a pee pad when left to my own devices.
