About Camper (Courtesy Post)

Meet Camper! This handsome 5-year-old Blue Heeler mix is a loyal, affectionate, and adventure-loving guy who is searching for either a temporary foster home (6-12 months) or a forever family. Camper thrives with plenty of space to roam, enjoys time off-leash, and prefers a life closer to nature rather than busy city streets. He absolutely adores being near water, exploring trails, and spending his days outdoors. Camper is also a fantastic passenger on car rides and loves hanging out with people of all ages, including children. He enjoys playing "Search," using his keen nose to find hidden objects, and would likely excel in roles like search and rescue. While he hasn't lived with cats, he has stayed in homes with them successfully and would likely adjust with a slow introduction. Camper is smart, eager to learn, and happiest when he has a job to do.

Ideal Home

Camper would be happiest in a home with:

  • Easy access to trails, woods, or open spaces.
  • Another friendly dog, children, or an active household.
  • Someone who wants a loyal companion for hiking, trail running, mountain biking, skiing, or everyday adventures.
  • An understanding that he needs both physical exercise and mental enrichment. Camper isn't content with just a couple of walks around the block; he truly shines when given a job, an adventure, or a game.

Ongoing Health

Camper experiences some anxiety, which became more noticeable after a recent move. Big transitions can be difficult for him, and he currently takes a daily anti-anxiety medication that significantly helps him feel more comfortable. When overwhelmed, Camper may hesitate to get out of the car or refuse a walk for a bit, and new environments and people can take him some time to adjust to.

Training & Support

Camper sometimes "herds" by gently nibbling or pretending to nip. This is a natural instinct for his breed and not a sign of aggression. He is looking for a patient adopter who won't be discouraged if he needs a little extra time to build confidence. Having other dogs around often helps him feel more comfortable.
