Florence, affectionately nicknamed Flora, Flory, Lory, or Sweetpea, is a playful and energetic 3-year-old Carolina Dog mix weighing 46 pounds. She is a total love bug who enjoys snuggling and would thrive with an active family. Flora adores playing with her foster dog sibling, Furman, wrestling and chasing each other for hours. She has experience with dogs of various sizes and would do well with a canine companion of similar age, size, and energy level. Flora is housebroken and does not have issues being unsupervised outside of a crate, although she has shown some anxiety when crated at home. She is smart, loves learning new tricks, and is very submissive and affectionate. While she can be a work in progress, Flora will reward you with years of love and companionship!
Ideal Home
Flora would do best in a home that is often around, enjoys walks or jogs, and will play fetch with her. A home with no other pets or a well-balanced dog of similar age, size, and energy level would be ideal. She is nervous around new children and can be fearful of new people, so an adult household may be best at this time. Flora is terrified of storms and will seek shelter when they occur.
Ongoing Health
Flora is spayed and up-to-date on vaccinations. She has shown some anxiety in the crate at home, but does fine when boarded.
Training & Support
Flora exhibits leash reactivity, which includes raised hair, whimpering, and barking. Her foster parents have been working with her on this, and she has made progress with positive reinforcement in calm environments. She will need consistent training to help her with her leash skills and to feel more secure around new dogs and stimuli. Flora also needs gentle reminders when taking treats.
