About Juniper

Juniper is absolutely the sweetest creature on the planet! She can be a little timid when meeting new people, but once she gets to know you, she is willing to follow you around and help you with anything (including things that don't need help!). If you know and love the antics and devotion of beagles, Juniper will be the perfect dog for you. She offers endless love and companionship and has a strong desire to sniff out every new smell. Her willingness to follow you anywhere is matched only by her ability to get into a little trouble if left to her own devices. Juniper rides well in the car, but she does bark and whine when left alone, so she might not be the best fit for an apartment. While her foster says she isn't horrible on leash, she's not the best either.

Ideal Home

Juniper would likely thrive in a home with another dog who enjoys interacting and can be a confident buddy to show her the ropes. She's used to having canine companions, as she likely comes from a hunting beagle kennel. She's being fostered with a cat and doesn't bother him, but she does enjoy cat food, so it would need to be kept out of her reach. Juniper is happy to entertain herself, but this might involve chewing on your robe belt or gathering all your shoes into her bed. If you've had a beagle before, you know this is pretty par for the course. She's not hyper, but she is young and will need some physical and mental stimulation to keep your belongings safe. Juniper was not fostered with children but would likely love them. However, because she can get a little excited, she might do best with older children she can't accidentally knock over.

Ongoing Health

Juniper has a low-grade heart murmur and a slow heart rate, which doesn't significantly impact her daily life but can affect the medications she needs if sedated. She should be on a cardiology-approved diet (Hills, Purina, etc.) and should avoid grain-free or boutique foods. Juniper was heartworm positive upon arrival and has since completed treatment.

Training & Support

Juniper's housetraining has been inconsistent. While she does well at times, she's recently had some accidents in her crate. A good routine, another dog, and a little patience from her adopter might help her get this figured out. She will need continued exercise and mental stimulation to prevent destructive chewing.
