Meet Miss Violet, a sweet and gentle 10-year-old Shih Tzu who weighs about 10 pounds. Violet came to us as part of an owner surrender due to their former person's medical emergency. She's a rare liver-hued Shih Tzu with beautiful, unique irises. Violet is initially shy but blossoms with affection once she trusts you. She enjoys companionship and can be found cuddling in laps or sharing the sofa and bed with her favorite humans. Violet has lived with other dogs and enjoys their company, but she would also be happy as an only dog if she has opportunities to socialize with canine friends. She is a pack animal and thrives with connection.
Ideal Home
Violet would thrive in a home where people are around most of the time and can offer her constant companionship. She needs to be by your side, sharing your activities and resting with you at night. While she can tolerate short absences if another dog is present, she truly needs consistent company. Older children will be considered on a case-by-case basis, only if they have prior experience with dogs, understand dog behavior, and show great respect. Crates are not an option for Violet; if your lifestyle requires a crate, she may not be the best fit. A secure fenced-in yard is ideal but not required.
Ongoing Health
Violet is spayed, microchipped, and up-to-date on all her vaccines, including Rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, and Corona/flu. She also tested negative for heartworm, Lyme disease, Ehrlichia, and Anaplasmosis. In June 2026, she underwent a dental cleaning and had bloodwork done, which showed numbers mostly within normal ranges. She was slightly anemic upon arrival but is expected to thrive with good nutrition and a loving home. Violet has slight cataracts, but her vision is still good, and she remains very mobile. A health certificate will be provided with her medical records.
Training & Support
Violet has received her first positive reinforcement training sessions. She is very sweet and gentle during baths and grooming and seems to enjoy the attention. Her hair will continue to grow, and she will require professional grooming every 4-6 weeks. Applicants must be prepared for this ongoing maintenance and cost.
