Canela

Canela is a bright, loving, and full-of-life young dog with the heart and spirit typical of an Australian Kelpie. She’s approximately 1 year old and weighs about 33 lbs. Known for their intelligence, loyalty, and high energy, Kelpies are active companions who thrive with people who enjoy outdoor activities, and Canela is no exception. She walks well on a leash and is very social with dogs and people alike; strangers don't make her nervous at all. In fact, she’s incredibly friendly and affectionate. Canela has a playful and funny personality—she’ll even jump up as if she were a tiny Chihuahua, hoping to be picked up and cuddled! She is energetic, curious, and always ready for fun. Canela was found alone playing in the street, and since then, she has shown nothing but love, resilience, and a wonderful spirit. She is ready to find a forever home where she can share her energy, affection, and loyal heart.

Ideal Home

Canela would thrive in an active household that enjoys outdoor activities. A fenced backyard is a must for her to safely explore and play. She needs a family with a real intention to rescue a dog and an open conscience about the needs of rescued animals. Experience with dog behavior and training is highly valued, or a willingness to hire a trainer to best support this intelligent dog. Patience and high tolerance are crucial, especially as she is not house-trained.

Ongoing Health

Canela has received a spay/neuter certificate, two DHPPI vaccines, a rabies vaccine, a Bordetella vaccine, is dewormed, microchipped, and has tested negative for heartworm and 4DX. She is currently on monthly Nexgard Spectra for flea, tick, and heartworm prevention and has a health certificate and vaccination booklet.

Training & Support

Canela is not house-trained and may bark when she hears unfamiliar noises, as she is naturally alert. Like many young and intelligent dogs, she can get bored if she doesn’t have enough stimulation and may chew on objects, especially plastic. Providing plenty of toys and consistent guidance will help her thrive. Patience and understanding are absolutely crucial, as rescued dogs may have fears and anxieties due to past experiences and need time to adapt to new environments and people.

• If it’s a match, we’ll call or video chat, introduce you to the pet, and take a virtual home tour.
• We’ll speak with 1–2 of your references.
• If approved, you’ll sign the adoption contract.
• The adoption fee covers vet care, spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip, food, and more.

Transportation

Canela is currently being fostered in Saltillo, Mexico, and is ready to travel to the East Coast on a cross-country trip. Transport is available door-to-door for an additional fee of $400 USD. Our contracted transport company organizes scheduled trips (3-4 per year) with a dedicated team that collects adopted pets in Mexico and transports them across the border into Texas. They provide all necessary legal documents, including transport contracts and USDA health certificates. You will receive real-time updates throughout the journey in a private Facebook Messenger group.
