Flora, a 3-year-old spayed female Carolina Dog mix weighing 46 pounds, is a bundle of playful energy who loves to wrestle and be chased. She's also a total love bug who enjoys snuggling! Flora can be a bit nervous around new people and children, and she experiences "stranger danger" when visitors first arrive, often barking at them, especially if they move quickly. She's also terrified of storms and will seek shelter. Despite these anxieties, she has made great progress with positive reinforcement training and thrives in a moderately active home.
Ideal Home
Flora would do best in a home with someone who is often around, enjoys walks or jogs, and will play fetch with her. A home with no other pets or a well-balanced dog of similar age, size, and energy level would be ideal. She may prefer an adult household due to her nervousness around new children and her stranger danger.
Ongoing Health
Flora has some leash reactivity and gets easily spooked, but her foster parents have been working with her on this behavior. She has demonstrated some anxiety in the crate at home, but has no issues when boarded.
Training & Support
Flora requires slow and guided introductions to other dogs and may do best as the only pet in the home. She needs consistent training to help with her leash skills and to feel safe around new dogs and stimuli. She is housebroken and does not have issues with food or people when it comes to sharing, though she needs reminders to take treats gently. She is very smart and loves learning new tricks.
