Diego

Diego is a sweet, resilient young boy who has overcome so much already. He's approximately 2 years old and weighs around 60 lbs. Diego loves people and is affectionate, loyal, and protective of his family. He's also incredibly smart and eager to learn, already knowing commands like "sit," "down," "bed/place," and "go." He's great with adults and children, and is even house-trained! Despite a past of neglect and fear, Diego still has a heart full of love to give.

Ideal Home

Diego would thrive in a home that can provide him with the structure, consistency, and patience he needs to continue healing and learning. Due to his high prey drive, he cannot live with cats. He is also a fence-jumper, so a secure, fenced yard is essential. He can be reactive to other animals due to past overstimulation and survival instincts, so slow introductions to dogs his size are recommended.

Ongoing Health

Diego is fully vetted and is currently undergoing heartworm treatment, which is covered by the rescue.

Training & Support

Diego is still learning essential dog skills like leash manners and obedience. He has made great progress, but his new family will need to be committed to continuing his training with patience and understanding. His foster has noted that he was initially fearful of being touched or having objects like sticks flung near him, and had no idea how to walk on a leash without choking himself. This indicates a past of neglect, and he will need a patient owner to build trust.
