Flora is a 3-year-old, spayed female Carolina Dog mix weighing 46 pounds. She's a playful and energetic girl who loves to wrestle and be chased! Flora enjoys interacting with other dogs, particularly a pup named Furman, whom she showers with licks. She's shown she can play well with dogs of various sizes, from 35 to 60 pounds. Flora is a total love bug who enjoys snuggling and will reward you with years of love and companionship. She's also a smart cookie who loves learning new tricks and is very submissive and affectionate.
Ideal Home
Flora would do best in a home with dogs of similar size and energy level, though she may also thrive as the only pet. She adores the 8-year-old child in her foster home but can be nervous around new children. Because she experiences "stranger danger" and barks at new people, especially if they move quickly, an adult household might be ideal for her at this time. She needs a home where someone is often around to play fetch with her and engage in regular outdoor play sessions.
Ongoing Health
Flora is fully housebroken. She has shown some anxiety in a crate at home, but has no issues when crated at a boarding facility. She is fed separately from other dogs in the home.
Training & Support
Flora can exhibit leash reactivity, showing behaviors like raised hair, whimpering, and barking when encountering other dogs. Her foster parents have been working with her on this using positive reinforcement and minimal stimuli. She walks much better in calm environments and will need consistent training to help her with leash skills and feeling secure around new dogs and stimuli. She also needs gentle reminders to take treats softly. Flora has high energy needs and requires dedicated outdoor playtime to be happy indoors. She is terrified of storms and will seek shelter.

Transportation
Flora is currently in a foster home in Houston, Texas. She can be transported out of state once an adopter is approved. Transports run every few weeks, and she will be placed on the next available transport after approval.
