Dusty

Dusty is a handsome, adult Lab mix with a sleek, golden coat and a distinguished white blaze on his chest. He arrived at our shelter on April 10, 2021, after being transferred from a high-kill shelter in South Carolina. He was a stray and was overlooked for months, but now this charming boy is ready to find his forever home. Dusty is incredibly versatile; he's the perfect hiking companion who also doubles as a warm lap-dog. He walks wonderfully on a leash, enjoys car rides, loves to zoom, and is a champion cuddler. He even has excellent indoor manners, often serving as our office assistant, complete with his own tie, filling the office with his joyful and calm presence. Dusty truly embodies the "best of both worlds," possessing the energy for outdoor adventures and a relaxed demeanor for indoor snuggles. He hasn't realized he's a 66lb dog and still thinks he's a lap dog, showering his loved ones with kisses and hugs. He's a quick learner and will happily settle in his own bed if his enthusiasm for lap-time becomes too much. One of his favorite activities is a car ride, where he'll ride shotgun, often draping an arm over his human's like a true best bud.

Ideal Home

Dusty would thrive in a home with a securely fenced backyard where he can safely enjoy his zoomies. He loves other dogs and can be selective, so proper introductions to any resident dogs are essential. Dusty has shown too much interest in cats, so a cat-free home is a must. He may initially bark at strangers but quickly warms up. Due to his occasional overexcitement, a home with older children (12+) would be the best fit, as he can be redirected to settle down quickly.

Dusty is a healthy adult dog.

Training & Support

Dusty walks well on a leash and is happy to mosey or run, depending on the situation. He's house-trained and has excellent indoor manners. He responds well to redirection and settles quickly when given guidance.
