Meet Sasha! This lovely 5-month-old German Shepherd from Detroit is learning that the world is a safe and fun place. She may be a little shy at first, but beneath that cautious exterior is an incredibly sweet, playful, and loving girl just waiting to bond deeply with her people. Once you earn her trust, Sasha quickly becomes a total velcro dog who wants nothing more than to be by your side. Sasha has made wonderful progress in foster care and continues to gain confidence every day. She is intelligent, observant, and eager to connect with her person, making her a puppy with tons of potential for continued training and adventures. She loves chasing balls, splashing in the pool, exploring trails and parks on a long line, and chewing on bully sticks for hours.
Ideal Home
Sasha would do best in an adult-only home or one with older dog-savvy children who understand how to respectfully interact with a shy puppy. She is also seeking a home with a physical fenced yard, and this is a MUST to help her settle into a new environment because she may very well enter into the flight mode when scared. Having another confident and stable dog in the home will be extremely important for Sasha, as she takes a great deal of comfort in following the lead of other dogs.
Ongoing Health
Sasha is current on Bordetella, Distemper, and Rabies, has been dewormed, and tested negative for heartworm. She is receiving heartworm and flea prevention and is microchipped. She is scheduled for spay surgery at 6 months of age.
Training & Support
Sasha is still learning that new people, sounds, and experiences can be safe and fun. She can still be hesitant when meeting new people or experiencing unfamiliar environments, so she will need a patient family that understands the importance of allowing her to adjust at her own pace. A calm demeanor, positive reinforcement, and a handful of kibble go a long way with this smart girl. She is eager to please and responds beautifully to gentle guidance and encouragement. Sasha is currently working on building her confidence, as well as learning basic puppy skills, and will need a dedicated family committed to continuing her training and socialization in a positive, structured way. She does very well in her crate, although she may briefly protest before settling down. Car rides are still a work in progress.
