Dakota is a sweet 4-year-old Am Staff mix overflowing with love and affection to give. She's a smart, curious, and loyal companion who thrives on being part of the family. Whether it's a long walk, a car ride, or snuggling on the couch (yes, she believes she's a lap dog!), Dakota wants to be right there with you, showering you with kisses. While usually calm and chill, she can get delightfully energetic with a case of the zoomies or a spirited tug-of-war with her favorite rope toy.

Dakota had a challenging start, facing a high-kill shelter and a traumatic dog attack. While she was initially reserved around other dogs, she has made incredible progress and is now mostly her old, happy self. She's wonderfully social with puppies, smaller dogs, and older dogs. However, she does not do well with male dogs her size or cats.

Dakota is looking for a family to share movie marathons, provide cozy companionship on cold nights, and appreciate her diligent protective nature.

Ideal Home

Dakota would love a home where she can be included in all family activities. She needs a home without male dogs her size or cats.

Ongoing Health

Dakota is spayed and up-to-date on vaccinations. She has no known ongoing health issues.

Training & Support

Dakota is house-trained and crate-trained. She is still working on her leash manners, as she can pull when excited. A bit of continued positive reinforcement training will help her shine.

Transporation

Dakota is located at our shelter in Long Beach, California. We offer transport to approved adopters within a 200-mile radius of the shelter for an additional fee.
