About Lucy
Lucy is a sweet 2-year-old, 36lb mixed breed who is ready to find her forever home! Lucy's early life didn't offer much in the way of socialization or freedom, so the world is still quite new and sometimes overwhelming for her. She can be a little cautious around new people, crowds, and wide-open spaces, but watching her blossom and gain confidence each day has been an absolute joy! While she might greet new friends with a touch of hesitation, she quickly warms up and is happy to accept a treat once she feels secure.
Inside the home, Lucy is a true gem. She enjoys free roam without any issues and has never required a crate. She can happily spend up to 4 hours alone without any signs of separation anxiety or destructive behavior. Lucy is a respectful, calm companion who is content to nap or quietly follow you from room to room. She is also fully house-trained!
Lucy is an intelligent and food-motivated girl who already knows important commands like "door respect," "wait," "sit/stay," and "leave it." She is actively learning to relax and enjoy calming activities such as gentle massages, playtime, and her favorite afternoon naps. Lucy's favorite things include earning special treats, playing (and "smiling"!) with her stuffed toys, cuddling on the couch for movie marathons, and enjoying a good roll in the grass while searching for the perfect stick. She loves her two daily walks, during which she's a leash-walking superstar, and enjoys short play sessions throughout the day. If something spooks her during a walk, she'll pause for a moment, but with a little patience, she'll quickly recover and continue on her way with a wagging tail. Lucy is also a wonderful traveler, remaining calm and curious while safely buckled in the back seat of the car. She gets along beautifully with other dogs and has shown no interest in chasing cats, squirrels, or rabbits. She is not a resource guarder; you can take anything from her without any concern. Lucy is truly a gentle and sweet soul.
Ideal Home
Lucy would thrive in a home with a fenced backyard where she can explore and play freely. She would benefit greatly from having another confident and friendly dog in the home to help her navigate new experiences. Her ideal family will have the time for daily walks and the patience to support her continued confidence-building journey. A home where someone is present most of the time would be ideal. She is comfortable with children aged 12 and up and would do best in a quiet, low-traffic neighborhood.
Ongoing Health
Lucy is currently on a small dose of trazodone twice daily to help manage her anxiety as she encounters new experiences. With time and stability in her new home, she will likely be able to discontinue this medication, but it will greatly assist her in transitioning smoothly and continuing to build the confidence she has already shown so much of.
Training & Support
Lucy is a quick learner and is motivated by treats. She already knows several commands and is working on truly relaxing and enjoying calm activities. Patience and positive reinforcement will be key to her continued growth and happiness.
