About Erika

Erika is a 3-year-old Doberman who is as smart as she is beautiful! She had a challenging start to life, but this resilient girl has overcome so much. Despite a broken tibia and foot, she remains energetic and full of life. Erika is a true fighter, and her strength and spirit are truly endearing. She's won over everyone she meets, even earning the title of "favorite dog" at the vet clinic! Erika was found to be heartworm positive upon arrival and is currently undergoing treatment, which she's handling like a champ.

Ideal Home

Erika would thrive in a home that can meet her high energy needs with multiple outlets for exercise and mental stimulation. She would love a securely fenced backyard, at least 6 feet high, as she is a bit of a Houdini and has a history of escaping crates and ex-pens. She would do best in an only-dog household and cannot live with cats or small animals. Her new family must be willing to work with her on continuing to fulfill her mental and physical needs.

Ongoing Health

Erika is currently undergoing heartworm treatment and will require year-round heartworm prevention for her lifetime. Due to an accident, she has early onset arthritis in her left rear stifle, which will require lifelong joint supplements and may necessitate pain medication earlier than typical. She has a noticeable limp in her left hind leg.

Training & Support

Erika can be destructive if her mental and physical needs are not met. She is also a reactive dog and may redirect on dogs in her proximity. She requires a home that understands breed temperament and her specific needs. She needs a slip or martingale collar for safety on walks.
