About Blue Ribbon

Blue Ribbon is a lovely, but shy puppy who is still learning that the world is a safe place. She is working on housebreaking and is making progress, and she does pretty well sleeping in her kennel overnight. She wants to show you her best features.

Ideal Home

Blue Ribbon is not a good fit for a first-time dog owner. She will need an adoptive family with the patience, experience, and commitment to move slowly and continue helping her build confidence over time. She would also not be a good match for a home with young children. Older, considerate children who can understand her need for space and respect her boundaries may be okay.

Ongoing Health

Blue Ribbon has an umbilical hernia. If it is present at the time of the spay it will need to be repaired at the adopter's expense. It will likely add about an additional $80-$100 to the cost of the spay, depending on the vet clinic. Her vaccinations are current, and she has a microchip. She will need her Distemper/Parvo and Rabies vaccinations at 16 weeks, and her spay/neuter surgery at 6 months, in addition to yearly wellness exams and booster vaccinations thereafter.

Training & Support

Blue Ribbon is very fearful of new people and animals. When she feels overwhelmed or scared, she may growl or snap because she does not yet know better ways to communicate her fear. Her foster family is working with her on building confidence, learning trust, and finding safer ways to respond when she is unsure. She will not be a “ready-made” puppy, but she is a puppy who deserves someone willing to meet her where she is. With structure, kindness, consistency, and time, Blue Ribbon has the opportunity to keep growing into a braver, more secure dog. She is looking for a family that will be patient with her and take her to lots of new places and puppy classes to help her work on her confidence!
