Meet Murphy!
This goofy and affectionate two-year-old Labrador Retriever mix is a bundle of charm with his floppy ears and shining golden coat. Murphy is a big-hearted pup, weighing around 70 pounds, who approaches life with boundless playful energy and happy tail wags. He’s a silly guy who loves to “talk” with little playful noises, making him feel like a true conversationalist. Murphy thrives on the simple joys – long walks, breezy car rides, his favorite chew toys, and enthusiastic zoomies in the yard. But don't let his playful antics fool you; he's a smart cookie who responds wonderfully to clicker training and is eager to learn more through positive reinforcement. He already knows "sit" and "lay down," and he's making great progress on "stay" and "recall."
Ideal Home
Murphy is wonderfully social with other dogs and would truly flourish in a home with a confident canine pal to show him the ropes and help him feel secure. Doggie daycare is one of his favorite places, where he really comes out of his shell. At home, he settles into a steady routine, enjoying snuggles and quiet time on his bed or couch – his idea of winding down after a day of fun. A home without children is recommended.
Ongoing Health
Murphy does have some anxiety, especially in unfamiliar or chaotic environments, and has shown fear-based behaviors when feeling trapped. He has had a few incidents where he nipped or bit. These moments stemmed from fear, not aggression, and his guardians have worked hard to create structure and help him feel secure. Murphy can be a little nervous around some men, though he does well with many, and has made great progress through consistent training, patience, and love. Murphy also benefits from a mindful diet; it's suspected that chicken may contribute to his skin sensitivities, so it has been removed as a precaution. Regular soothing baths help keep his skin comfortable, and with the right care, his golden coat shines almost as brightly as his personality!
Training & Support
Murphy will thrive with a calm, experienced pet parent who understands anxiety and reactivity and can continue supporting his confidence. Slow introductions to new people and surroundings, along with consistency and gentle guidance, will help him blossom.
