Shuggie is a charming 8-year-old Catahoula mix with a heart full of loyalty and a playful spirit. He's neutered, fully vaccinated, and up-to-date on his heartworm prevention. Shuggie is a smart boy who knows how to "go potty" when needed and even enjoys singing along with sirens! He's a great traveler and has enjoyed many adventures, including camping and hotel stays. He's a smart cookie who knows hand signals and enjoys agility work, which is a great way to keep his active mind stimulated. Shuggie can be a bit vocal and sassy, but it's all part of his unique charm! He's looking for a committed adopter who will cherish his goofy personality and devoted companionship.
Ideal Home
Shuggie would thrive in a home where he can bond closely with his people. He is not suited for homes with toddlers or small children, as he can become overstimulated. He also needs a home without cats or small toy breed dogs, but he has lived successfully with a medium-sized dog with proper introductions and management around resources.
Ongoing Health
Shuggie is a high-white Catahoula mix and shows some signs of slight vision and possible hearing impairment. He can occasionally experience ear flare-ups due to yeast and contact allergies, but these are manageable with medication. He has tested positive for ehrlichiosis, but it is not active and simply indicates he has had it in the past. His high-white coat can make him more sensitive to contact allergies, but he has not had any chronic issues.
Training & Support
Shuggie is house-trained and generally well-behaved. He can be a counter surfer when food is left out, so keeping counters clear is recommended. He needs slow introductions to new people, as is common for many working breeds. He can be leash reactive to some dogs randomly, but he responds well to confidence and cues from his handler. He also has a prey drive and will chase small animals and birds.
