Meet Dax — a sweet, snuggly 6-month-old pointer mix with a gentle heart, a bright brain, and just the right amount of puppy mischief.
Dax made the big trip from a crisis-stricken Oklahoma shelter and is now safely off the euthanasia list and living his best foster life in Des Moines. He’s soaking up every second of it! This handsome boy absolutely adores people, is wonderfully friendly with other dogs, and has been gentle and sweet with the kiddos he’s met at adoption events.
At about 43 pounds (and still filling out), Dax is an active, outdoorsy guy who would love a securely fenced yard where he can zoom, sniff, and stretch those long legs. He’s got that classic hunting-breed enthusiasm and thrives with daily exercise and adventures.
Brains? He’s got plenty. Dax is already conquering Level 4 enrichment puzzles like a champ! He loves Kongs, lick mats, puzzle toys, frozen goodies, and healthy chews (no rawhide for this smart cookie). Dax is teething right now so loves his chews! He already knows sit and down, walks nicely on leash (unless a squirrel files a surprise appearance) and has great recall. Gold star, Dax!
He enjoys having dog friends and would be very happy in a home with another playful pup. He can get a little enthusiastic when playing with very tiny dogs — he just doesn’t always realize he’s not pocket-sized himself. He hasn’t met cats yet, but a cat test can be arranged.
Dax loves being near his people and soaking up affection, but he’s not clingy. He’s perfectly content to relax nearby or claim his favorite chair for some independent chill time. He’s the best of both worlds — cuddly and confident.
Dax would thrive with a family who has the time and commitment to provide daily exercise, outdoor fun, and enrichment to keep his clever mind busy.
If you’re looking for a smart, loving adventure buddy who’s ready for daytime exploring and evening couch time, Dax might just be your perfect match.
