Luke

Meet Luke! This handsome 5-year-old, 72-pound German Shepherd mix is a bundle of playful energy and intelligence, with a personality as big as his love for interaction and activity. Luke absolutely thrives on structure, engagement, and having both his mind and body kept busy. He adores going for walks, playing fetch and tug, and engaging in games like hide-and-seek. He's a smart cookie who loves learning new things and showing off his impressive repertoire of commands and tricks, especially when treats are involved!

Ideal Home

Luke is looking for an experienced adopter who understands that training and management are an ongoing journey. He would be happiest in a home where he can continue to build a strong working relationship with his person, engaging in structured activities and training. Due to his behavioral needs, Luke is not recommended for homes with cats, small dogs, or small animals.

Ongoing Health

Luke has a sensitive stomach and a history of chewing/eating inappropriate objects, so continued management and supervision are important for his well-being.

Training & Support

Luke has made tremendous progress in addressing redirection behaviors thanks to a board and train program. He's learned that working with his handler is rewarding and fun! He is highly food motivated and knows many commands like sit, down, place, come, touch, spin, shake, wait, and "with me." He is also crate trained. His adopters will have ongoing support through weekly group classes from JPK9 Oklahoma to help maintain his training. Luke does struggle with dog reactivity, resource guarding, overexcitement, and a high prey drive, which require experienced handling and management.
