Meet Lainey! This spirited 2-year-old, 13 lb Jack Russell Terrier mix is bursting with playful energy and a whole lot of love to give. Lainey is a wonderful little companion who loves her humans deeply, but she needs time, patience, and a gentle environment to feel safe. She’s house-trained and can hold it impressively well, but she only reliably potties on walks. If she’s picked up and carried outside, she often becomes nervous and may have an accident — she does best when her person simply meets her where she is and incorporates several short walks into her routine. Lainey is just learning how fun toys can be and has some playful energy, especially with dogs she knows. She can be an only dog or live with doggie siblings, but she has a more dominant personality and doesn’t enjoy being pestered by other dogs. On walks, she does well overall but can be a little leash reactive, occasionally barking at passing dogs. She needs a home committed to 3-4 short walks a day, about 5-10 minutes each, to help her potty reliably and feel secure. Lainey is scared of new people at first and does better entering a new home than having visitors enter hers. Because of her anxiety, she should not be crated — it’s traumatic for her — but she’s perfectly content staying in a quiet room behind a baby gate when her foster mom leaves. She’s not a lap dog; she’s independent, choosing her own cozy spots, but she shows affection in sweet ways, like running in to say “good morning” or checking in throughout the day.
Ideal Home
Lainey would thrive in a house, apartment, or condo with calm surroundings and minimal foot traffic. She is best with dog-savvy teens and should not live with young children due to her anxiety.
