About Odie

Hi, I'm Odie! I'm a 4-year-old, 65-pound black Rottweiler mix with a heart full of love and a spirit ready for a fresh start. My early days were a bit rough, as I was found as a tiny puppy on the side of the road. Thankfully, I was rescued and have since lived with a loving family. This challenging beginning has left me with some anxiety and fear, but I'm working hard every day to overcome it. I'm neutered, house-trained, and currently on medication to help manage my anxiety, which has been a great help! While I'm initially shy with new people, once I feel safe and trust you, I form a very deep bond. I've been incredibly gentle with my family's five-month-old baby, but I haven't been around other children. I'm playful, smart, and know commands like "sit," "speak," and "shake." I truly want to please and thrive on positive reinforcement.

Ideal Home

I'm looking for an experienced dog owner who is patient, steady, and confident. Someone who understands fear-based behaviors and can provide clear, gentle boundaries. I'm not a good fit for a timid handler or a first-time dog owner. I would do best in a household without young children, ideally 14 years of age or older. I am not good with cats. I need a home that can help me feel safe, not overwhelmed. My anxiety can sometimes lead me to get into things like trash or random objects when I'm feeling overwhelmed or left alone. I also struggle with crates and find them scary, so a home that can accommodate my need for a more relaxed approach to confinement would be ideal. I do best when I have access to just one room when left alone, and my family has used a baby monitor to help me feel secure.

Ongoing Health

I am neutered and on Reconcile to help manage my anxiety.

Training & Support

I am house-trained. My anxiety can manifest as protectiveness, sometimes leading to barking or growling at strangers. I can become overstimulated and redirect that energy, and I have had a single bite incident when my owner was pulling me away from the screen door as I was barking at the mailman. I would benefit from a home that can provide consistent training to help me learn to relax around strangers and understand that I don't need to defend the household. I need someone who can help me build confidence and navigate the world with a structured, gentle approach.
