Lazaro

Lázaro is a calm, approximately 6–7-year-old male Schnauzer mix weighing around 19 lbs. He has a gentle soul and a quiet presence, sleeping comfortably in an open crate for short periods. Lázaro is a social butterfly who gets along well with other dogs, children, men, and women, and even coexists peacefully with chickens and roosters. He enjoys affection but isn't overly clingy, preferring to be a low-key, independent companion who appreciates calm love. Lázaro is generally tranquil and easygoing, making him a wonderful match for a relaxed household. He is unique and special, with one eye being congenitally small and without vision, and he's missing a few teeth. Despite these differences, he is healthy, pain-free, and lives a completely normal life. He enjoys walks, is non-aggressive, and although he may bark and try to act like the “boss,” it’s all show and no bite. Lázaro was abandoned for being considered “old” and “different,” but he is now ready for a family who will appreciate his resilience and quiet loyalty.

Ideal Home

A home with a fenced backyard and an active family that enjoys outdoor activities. Families with a real intention to rescue a dog, with an open conscience about the needs of street animals, and a willingness to provide protection and education. Experience in dog behavior and training is preferred, or a commitment to hiring a trainer. High tolerance and patience for rescued animals are essential, as Lázaro is not house-trained.

Ongoing Health

Lázaro is healthy and pain-free, despite having a congenitally small, non-visual eye and missing a few teeth. His health protocols include spay/neuter certificate, DHPPI and Rabies vaccines, Bordetella vaccine, deworming, microchip, a negative 4DX and heartworm test, and monthly Nexgard Spectra preventive protection. He has a health certificate and vaccine booklet.

Training & Support

Lázaro can be a bit protective of his food, so basic boundaries during feeding time are recommended. He is not house-trained, and adopters should be prepared to work on this. Patience and understanding are crucial, as rescued dogs may have fears and anxieties due to past experiences and need time to adapt to new environments and people. Establishing a routine and clear boundaries will help him feel secure.

Transportation

Lázaro is currently being fostered in Saltillo, Mexico, and is ready to travel to the East Coast on a cross-country trip if adopted. A one-time transport fee of $400 USD covers door-to-door delivery. Trips are scheduled 3-4 times a year with a minimum of 15-20 adoptions per trip. A partnered transport company will collect adopted pets from Mexico and deliver them to your home, with real-time updates provided throughout the journey.
