Butters has been with us since January, and after raising six puppies, she's more than ready for a family of her own. While she can be a little reserved when meeting new people or experiencing new situations, once she trusts you, she transforms into an affectionate cuddle bug who wants nothing more than to be by your side. She is house-trained when kept on a routine and can comfortably hold it between potty breaks. Butters is also crate-trained and settles well when crated. She has spent time around people of various ages and has done well. She shows good recall and will often return when called, even when distracted by wildlife. Butters is not destructive with bedding, blankets, or household items. She responds well to verbal cues and knows several commands including sit, down, and paw. She is extremely food-motivated and eager to learn. Butters loves tug toys, chew toys, and interactive play, and she enjoys being chased during play, showing off her playful, goofy personality. She has a nice balance of energy; she enjoys activities and adventures but also knows how to settle and relax. Butters lives successfully with other dogs and appears to enjoy canine companionship.
Ideal Home
Butters would thrive in a home that continues to build her confidence while providing the companionship she loves. She appears happiest when she has people to cuddle with and canine friends to interact with. A family willing to continue positive reinforcement training and provide regular exercise, enrichment, and structure will help her shine. Butters may pull on the leash when excited or when she spots small animals like squirrels, lizards, or other prey. She can become overwhelmed by rude dog greetings and may appropriately correct another dog if her space is not respected.
Ongoing Health
No specific health conditions are noted.
Training & Support
Butters can be cautious and reserved when first meeting new people or entering unfamiliar environments. Early in foster care, she exhibited some resource-guarding behaviors toward another dog, including growling and posturing. However, these behaviors have not been observed in over eight weeks and may have been related to the stress of nursing puppies and multiple transitions. Continued positive reinforcement training, regular exercise, enrichment, and structure will help her shine.
