Tony is a loyal and affectionate companion who thrives on close contact with his people. He's a world-class cuddler who would love to spend his days curled up in your lap or snuggled under blankets. Tony enjoys being by your side, whether you're relaxing, cooking, or out for a walk. He forms strong bonds with his family and wants nothing more than to feel safe and loved.
Ideal Home
Tony would do best in a quiet home with a consistent routine and minimal commotion. He can be triggered by new people entering the home or a room, so slow, positive, and controlled introductions are essential. He needs time to build trust, but once he does, his confidence grows quickly. While Tony is more comfortable around women and forms trusting relationships quickly, he can thrive in a home with a man if that person is gentle, patient, and willing to let Tony set the pace. A women-only household is ideal, but not a strict requirement.
Ongoing Health
Tony has confinement and separation anxiety. When left alone, he has exhibited destructive chewing behavior and has had house-soiling accidents. He also has a tendency to be vocal. His foster family has found that having another dog companion can significantly reduce his anxiety and accidents. Adopters will need to be prepared to create a secure and safe space for him and work through potential trial and error.
Training & Support
Tony needs patience and consistency, especially when meeting new people. Positive reinforcement, such as treats and praise, will go a long way in helping him feel secure and build trust. He requires a home environment that is understanding of his anxiety and provides him with the support he needs to feel safe and comfortable. Families who are home often or committed to working through his separation anxiety will be best suited for Tony.
