Juliet is a sweet 2-year-old pup, weighing around 45 lbs, who found herself at PACC with a friend after being discovered at a school. She's currently in urgent need of a foster or adopter to help her recover from the distemper virus. This recovery is expected to take about three months and requires a calm, supportive environment away from the shelter. Juliet has a positive history with other dogs and would likely thrive with canine companions to help her build confidence and trust. Distemper is not contagious to adult, fully vaccinated dogs, opening up possibilities for many homes.
Ideal Home
A quiet and calm environment is essential for Juliet's recovery. She would do best in a home with at least one other confident, well-socialized dog who can be a positive role model. It's crucial that any potential adopter or foster understands and respects her need for a decompression period of at least two weeks, allowing her to settle in at her own pace and approach for interaction.
Ongoing Health
Juliet is recovering from the distemper virus. PACC will provide medical guidance and support, and the PACC Clinic will oversee her care. Donated supplies will be provided to fosters, and foster families will have priority for adoption.
Training & Support
Juliet needs a patient and understanding handler. It's vital to avoid any forced handling, including petting while she's sleeping, grabbing her collar or body, picking her up, or forcing grooming during her decompression period. Positive reinforcement with high-value treats and praise is the recommended approach. It's critical to be aware of her warning signals, such as lip lifting, showing teeth, low growls, or stiffening of the body, and to respect these by creating distance and disengaging.
