Roadie

Hi there, I’m Roadie! I might possibly be the sweetest dog you’ve ever met. That’s what my friends tell me anyway. And I’m smart, gentle, and super cuddly. There is simply no place on earth I’d rather be than right by your side. I hope you want that too. I would love to be your constant companion and your loyal friend. I’m an expert at that! I’m a darling, 6-year-old, 38-pound Miniature Australian Shepherd mix, with the cutest little face, beautiful fur, and a happy, good-natured personality. I found myself all alone in the world near two busy local highways, before animal control brought me to safety at Wayside. It’s been a confusing and stressful time for me. I was happy to get the vet care that I needed, including dental work, grooming, and neutering. I feel so much better! Still, the big shelter felt incredibly lonely and scary. I was beyond happy when I was chosen to go to a loving foster home! Foster Mom makes me feel special and loved. That feels so nice. She says that I make her feel the same. While I was shy, timid, and sensitive at the shelter, I quickly settled in and made myself right at home in foster. I love everyone I’ve met, and I didn’t hesitate for even one moment to curl up next to Foster Mom for cuddles and pets. I get nervous to stay in a crate, but I’m doing just fine without one. At night, I peacefully sleep on the couch or sometimes on the bed. Sleeping through the night in a real home instead of a noisy shelter is something I’ll never take for granted. When Foster Mom isn’t home, I lounge by the door and nap until she returns. I’ve gotten into the trash a couple of times too, but other than that, I’ve been well behaved in her home. I hope you’ll be home with me as much as possible, because I’ll miss you when you’re gone. I love being part of the pack and feeling like I belong. I follow Foster Mom around the house just to be close to her, and when she heads out the door, sometimes I’m just ready to follow right behind her. She’s helping me to understand that I can’t always go with her. I’m a good listener and I respond well. She uses positive reinforcement training with me by gently praising and encouraging me when I’m a good boy, so that I learn what’s expected of me as my confidence continues to grow. I will thrive in a patient and calm environment. I’m a quiet friend with a nice, even temperament. I love the peaceful feeling of taking multiple naps throughout each day. And I enjoy having visitors stop by. I’m friendly and polite, approaching for pets without jumping or barking. We have a fenced yard at my foster home, where I love to chase the squirrels or just simply lounge under a shade tree and soak up the fresh air and peace of the day. Foster Mom keeps an eye on me whenever I’m outside to make sure that I stay safe and secure. I love to go for walks in our neighborhood! Walking on my leash was scary at Wayside, but walking with Foster Mom in a quiet, familiar area is one of my favorite things. I walk great on my leash using a harness. I’m not reactive with people I see along the way, but I sometimes give a quick bark to greet other dogs. I live with another dog in foster and we get along just great. He’s older and chill, which is fine with me, because I prefer to coexist with my dog friends. I love the companionship that we share, and he doesn’t even mind when I sometimes sit right on top of him, which makes Foster Mom laugh. I’ve never lived with kids before, and I will need to meet any kids under the age of 10 before we go home together, to make sure that we’re a good match. I hope to find a quiet and calm home without a lot of commotion and with kind people who love to be with me. I’m just a simple dog who won’t ask for much. A peaceful, safe life with people I love is enough for me. Let me show you how it feels to be loved unconditionally every single day. I can’t wait to do that for you. I can’t wait to be your dog and for you to be my person.

Ideal Home

I’m a shy dog and need someone willing to be patient with me. I need to go home on an anti-slip collar called a martingale collar. If you have kids in the home 9 years old and younger, I will need to meet them since I can be nervous around new people and loud noises. I hope to find a quiet and calm home without a lot of commotion and with kind people who love to be with me.

Ongoing Health

I am housebroken at my foster home. I was happy to get the vet care that I needed, including dental work, grooming, and neutering.

Training & Support

I’m a shy dog and need someone willing to be patient with me. Please stay patient with me as I get settled in with you. An adjustment period in a new home is perfectly normal. I get nervous to stay in a crate, but I’m doing just fine without one. I’ve gotten into the trash a couple of times too, but other than that, I’ve been well behaved in her home. She uses positive reinforcement training with me by gently praising and encouraging me when I’m a good boy, so that I learn what’s expected of me as my confidence continues to grow. I sometimes give a quick bark to greet other dogs.
