About Gingersnap

Gingersnap, also known as Ginger or Gingey, is a 9-year-old, 9lb Pekingese mix who is the funniest, spunkiest, and most adorable little thing. We don't know her backstory, but she was found as a stray in Houston. She has clearly had puppies in her past and likely did not have an easy life before entering the Houston city shelter. A shelter employee alerted us to her situation, and we immediately drove to rescue her.

Ginger is a friendly, confident, low to medium energy girl. She is very playful with most dogs she meets, especially other young pups her size. Ginger currently lives in a foster home with three other dogs and has taken a liking to one particular boy, whom she constantly tries to engage in play. It's quite adorable! She is potty trained, crate trained, great in the car, and good on leash. She enjoys sleeping in her crate at night and will retreat to it during the day for a quiet moment. When she first arrived in foster care, she had a few initial accidents but has been reliably potty trained since then. She has also shown no signs of separation anxiety when left alone.

Her exercise routine is low maintenance; she loves short walks around the neighborhood and enjoys bursts of zoomies and play with the other small dogs in her foster home. Ginger is generally good with being handled, but she can be startled if approached unexpectedly, letting out a small shriek. She has become less easily startled as she's become accustomed to her foster home's routine and humans.

Ideal Home

Ginger's ideal home would include another very playful small dog, as she enjoys vigorous play and also knows how to relax. She is a confident little girl who would thrive in various home environments. However, due to her tendency to be startled, a home without young children would be best.

Ongoing Health

Gingersnap is currently undergoing heartworm treatment and will be ready for her forever home in September.

Training & Support

Ginger is potty trained and crate trained. While she is good on leash and in the car, her adopter should be willing to continue basic command training for her safety.
