About Fargo/Farley

Fargo, or Farley, is a large, sweet, and silly boy who has really transformed his life! He arrived a bit overweight, which limited his mobility, but with a healthy diet and proper exercise, he's looking and feeling fantastic! He absolutely loves playing fetch with his Chuck-it all day long.

Farley is a nearly 3-year-old shepherd mix. He came to us with some fear-based reactivity on leash towards people and other dogs. However, he thrives in a doggie daycare environment and is eager to make friends off-leash. His on-leash manners are being actively rehabilitated, and he's showing incredible progress! Farley's history is a bit of a mystery, having had several owners in his short life. He was born in Texas and ended up in Maine, thankfully avoiding a sad fate at a local shelter due to his leash reactivity. Despite his past, Farley has had no issues meeting people here, both on and off leash, and has had wonderful interactions with cats. We're unsure about his experience with children, but given his amazing temperament, they could be a possibility in the right home. His previous owner was physically abusive, which has made Farley wary of quick movements and sometimes shy around men. He doesn't react aggressively but rather shuts down if he's afraid. We're diligently showing him what a kind and gentle home feels like.

Ideal Home

Farley would thrive with a family who can continue to work on his rehabilitation. He has shown to be great with cats and would likely do well with children.

Ongoing Health

Farley was previously overweight but is now on a healthy diet and exercise plan.

Training & Support

Farley has fear-based reactivity on leash and is working on his on-leash manners. He can be shy with men due to his past and may cower or shut down if he is afraid. His ideal family will be open to working with a trainer to help him acclimate to his new life.
