This sweet girl is looking for her special person! Iris is a 3 and a half year old Shepherd / Black Mouth Cur mix who weighs in at a compact 47 pounds. She was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Texas along with her siblings, and she's the last one still waiting for her forever home. Iris is fully vaccinated, microchipped, spayed, and ready to fill your life with love!
Ideal Home
Iris would thrive in a quieter environment, perhaps with access to trails or open spaces, away from the hustle and bustle of busy city streets. An adult-only home would be ideal, as she hasn't been around children and her fear reactivity means she needs a home where her boundaries can be respected. While she loves to play fetch and hang out with her people, a home where someone works from home would be a dream come true for her.
Ongoing Health
Iris is up-to-date on all her vaccinations, microchipped, and spayed. She has exhibited some food and resource guarding behaviors towards other dogs, so if she joins a multi-dog household, she will need to be fed separately. This is manageable with consistency and training.
Training & Support
Iris is fully potty trained and crate trained, viewing her crate as a sanctuary. She walks well on leash for shorter distances and knows basic commands like sit, down, and wait. Her reactivity, particularly towards other dogs and new people, is rooted in fear. She requires slow, patient, and intentional introductions to build trust. With understanding and consistent training, Iris blossoms into a loyal, affectionate, and deeply loving companion.
