Wesley is a loving, goofy, and loyal boy who absolutely adores hugs and cuddles. He's also a big fan of rolling in the dirt and playing with his dog besties! We believe he's a Shar-Pei mix due to his distinctive black tongue and gums. Wesley would make a fantastic addition to any family or the perfect adventure buddy for someone looking for a canine companion.
Wesley previously lived in a home where he was surrendered due to a new baby in the family. While we don't have all the details, there was an account of Wesley guarding the baby from the parents. He has shown protectiveness towards women and female dogs during his time with us, but has not exhibited resource guarding of people in our care.
Wesley has made incredible progress! He went from having no experience with other dogs to now happily spending his days with his dog friends. He's still a little shy when meeting new male dogs, but he's responded wonderfully to confidence-building exercises. He's now non-reactive and has calm interactions with strangers. He can be a bit nippy when playing and overly excited, often targeting pants, so gentle redirection is key. He is a puller on leash but is receptive to corrections. We recommend a front-pull harness, which has significantly improved his leash manners. Wesley has a strong desire to please, and his breed mix suggests he could be a wonderfully calm protector. He may take a moment to process new things, but he's still very easy to work with during training.
Ideal Home
Wesley would do well in a family environment or as a companion for an individual. He can be nippy when playing, so introductions with children of all ages should be supervised.
Ongoing Health
No specific health conditions are noted in his description.
Training & Support
Wesley can get nippy when overly excited during play (usually targeting pants), and occasional stress redirection may be needed. He is a puller on leash but receptive to corrections.
