Bran is an over 8-year-old German Shepherd with a heart of gold and a past that has shaped him into a unique companion. He's looking for an experienced handler who can appreciate his strong bonds and provide him with the clear guidance he thrives on. Bran is incredibly affectionate with his people, but he's also quite reserved with strangers. He's been trained in detection work and requires consistent reinforcement of manners and obedience. While he can tolerate younger energy in a home, he prefers a calmer environment. Bran would do well with a female dog of similar size or a calm, relaxed male. He's muzzle-trained for vet visits and situations where quick encounters with people or children might occur.
Ideal Home
Bran needs an experienced owner who understands the German Shepherd breed and can provide consistent training and clear boundaries. He is not recommended for a home with small children or small animals. Teenagers with good dog sense would be suitable. He may do well with a female dog of similar size or a male with a calm, relaxed temperament.
Ongoing Health
Bran has a healed knee injury, specifically a torn meniscus, which can cause a minor limp and seasonal discomfort. He is currently being treated for anal fistulas, believed to be an immune-related issue. He is on medication for this condition, which may be lifelong. Bran has been neutered, and it is hoped this may help with his fistula. He is currently taking cyclosporine and ketoconazole. He will receive vaccinations, deworming, and a vet check before going to his new home.
Training & Support
Bran requires regular maintenance of his manners and obedience training. He needs an owner who can provide consistent structure and clear expectations. While he bonds strongly, his corrections for unwanted behaviors can be significant, so understanding his cues and providing appropriate redirection is key.
