About Cliffie
Meet Cliffie — A Goofy, Loyal Companion Looking for His Just-Right Home
Cliffie is a 50-pound, playful, stuffie-loving guy with a big heart and an equally big personality. Born around August 2022, he's the perfect mix of silly, snuggly, and sensitive. With the person he trusts, Cliffie is affectionate, goofy, and loves belly rubs, couch time, and carrying his favorite toys around the house. Cliffie has medium energy. He enjoys a few short sessions of play each day—like chase with his foster's larger dog or fetch with his foster—and then happily settles for long stretches of relaxing and snuggling. Cliffie warms up slowly with strangers, but once he bonds with someone, he's incredibly loyal and loving. With his foster, he's trusting, cuddly, and even a little silly (think full-body barrel rolls). He prefers women and is more cautious around men, but with patience and consistency, he can build trust. Cliffie does great with the person he trusts and allows hugs, kisses, and full-body pets. He doesn't like his feet being touched and is muzzled for nail trims out of caution. His adopter should be prepared to build trust slowly and respectfully. Cliffie's relationships with other animals are very individual: he gets along wonderfully with one of the foster's large dogs and plays beautifully. He cannot live with small dogs and has shown aggression toward them. He has not done well with the foster's second large dog. He has learned to coexist with the resident cat with supervision and occasional reminders—though he did initially chase her, he responds to correction and respects her boundaries. Because of his reactivity, Cliffie cannot live with small dogs or other small animals, and he needs slow, careful introductions to any potential dog friends his size. Cliffie is highly reactive toward unfamiliar dogs, especially small ones. Walks in neighborhoods with lots of dogs can be difficult, so a quieter environment would set him up for the most success. He knows several commands and is crate-trained and potty-trained, but he will need an adopter committed to continuing his training and helping him feel safe in new situations.
Ideal Home
Cliffie will thrive in a calm home with a patient, confident adopter (he tends to bond more easily with women), no small dogs or small pets, slow, structured introductions to any resident large dog, a quieter walking environment, and someone willing to continue his training and help him build trust.
Ongoing Health
None listed.
