Meet Onyx, a delightful 7-year-old Chi Dachshund mix weighing around 20lbs! This sweet girl has a calm, gentle spirit and a personality that's sure to bring a smile to your face every day. Onyx is spayed, vaccinated, and up to date on all her preventatives, making her all set to find the loving home she truly deserves.
Onyx likely had a bit of a rough start, as she was rescued from a euthanasia list at an overcrowded shelter in Houston. Since then, she's been showing everyone just how special she is! She's currently being fostered in San Antonio.
Ideal Home
Onyx is an older gal with a touch of arthritis, so she enjoys a more relaxed pace of life. She would do best in a household with semi-active to low activity levels, where she can enjoy short walks and plenty of cozy downtime. She does love a good walk and will happily trot along until she gets a little tired, then she's ready to settle in for some chin scratches, belly rubs, and a nap. She has done well with respectful children ages 7–12 and would do best with older, dog-savvy children.
Ongoing Health
Onyx has a bit of arthritis, so she enjoys a slower pace.
Training & Support
Onyx is house-trained and sleeps in her crate at night by choice. She can be crated for up to 10 hours if needed. She doesn't resource guard, shows no food aggression, and can be trusted to roam the house freely without being destructive. Onyx gets along well with other dogs and enjoys playing with them, though she can get a little excited on leash when meeting new dog friends. She hasn't been around cats.
