Meet Iris! This sweet 3.5-year-old Shepherd/Black Mouth Cur mix is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed, weighing in at a compact 47 pounds. Iris was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Texas with her siblings and is now the last of her litter waiting for her forever home. She's a goofy, playful, and affectionate girl who, with a little time and patience, will show you just how special she is.
Ideal Home
Iris would thrive in a quieter environment, perhaps with access to trails or open spaces, away from the hustle and bustle of city streets. An adult-only home is best, as she hasn't been around young children and would benefit from an environment where her need for space and boundaries can be respected. She would also be a wonderful companion for someone who works from home.
Ongoing Health
Iris is a healthy girl who has received all her necessary vet care.
Training & Support
Iris is fully potty trained and crate trained, viewing her crate as a sanctuary. She can free-roam in a multi-dog home's office or in a whole house if she's the only pet, without accidents or destructive behavior. Iris exhibits some food and resource guarding behaviors towards other dogs, so she should be fed separately if there are other dogs in the home. While she can be dog-selective and requires slow, intentional introductions, she has formed genuine friendships with dogs in her foster home through play that works best when food and toys are kept separate. On walks, Iris can be reactive to dogs that get too close, so an owner experienced in managing leash reactivity and creating distance would be ideal.
